Paleontological Journal, Supplementary Issue № 2, 2004

Палеонтологический журнал, дополнительный выпуск № 2, 2004

The current volume is dedicated to the memory of Viktor Novokshonov and covers a variety of insect groups from Permian, boundary Permian-Triassic and Triassic deposits. The cornerstone of this volume has been laid by Aristov, with results of his extensive research of Permian grylloblattids. Rasnitsyn and Aristov described two monobasic genera of the orders of Hypoperlida and Grylloblattida and provided a generic key for the members of the family Anthracoptilidae (Hypoperlida). Last papers written by Novokshonov and Novokshonov and Zhuzhgova are also included; they are devoted to both descriptions of new taxa and discussion of general problems in Miomoptera and Mecopteroidea. Sukacheva and Aristov finalized a paper initiated by Novokshonov on an interesting Early Triassic scorpionfly from European Russia. Sinichenkova described a new genus and 13 new species of the stoneflies from the Tatarian of Udmurtiya and the Orenburg Region. Ponomarenko described a number of beetle taxa from the Upper Permian and the Lower Triassic of European Russia and thoroughly analyzed the succession of beetle faunas during the above periods. The paper by Ponomarenko and Shcherbakov added to the knowledge of Neuroptera around the Permian-Triassic boundary. We hope that this volume will attract the closest attention of entomologists, paleontologists, and stratigraphers all over the World and will serve to promotion of a good tradition of the Russian paleoentomological school.

The Fauna of Grylloblattid Insects (Grylloblattida) of the Lower Permian Locality of Tshekarda
by D.S. Aristov

Twenty new genera and 50 new species classified in the families Pinideliidae, Euryptilonidae, Lemmatophoridae, Tillyardembiidae, Tshekardominidae, Sylvaphlebiidae, Euremiscidae, Probnidae, Sheimiidae, Visheriferidae, Aliculidae, Ideliidae, Idelinellidae, Megakhosaridae, and Liomopteridae are described from the localities of Tshekarda, Barda, and Kishert'. The family Pinideliidae is transferred to the suborder Lemmatophorina, the families Sylvaphlebiidae and Euremiscidae are transferred to the suborder Protoperlina, and the family Phenopteridae is synonymized under Sylvaphlebiidae. The genera Sylvaella Martynov, 1940, Parasylviodes Martynov, 1940, and Khosarophlebia Martynov, 1940 are transferred to the family Liomopteridae. The genera Sylviodes Martynov, 1940, Permostriga Novokshonov, 1999, Bardapteron G. Zalessky, 1944, Paratillyardembia Aristov, 2000, and Neraphidia Novokshonov et Novokshonova, 1997 are transferred to the families Ideliidae, Idelinellidae, Atactophlebiidae, Sylvardembiidae, and Aliculidae, respectively. The genera Gurianovella G. Zalessky, 1939 and Sylvanympha Novokshonov et Pan'kov, 1999 are transferred to Grylloblattida incertae sedis. The genus Kirkorella G. Zalessky, 1939 is reinstated from junior synonyms of the genus Gurianovella. Representatives of the families Pinideliidae, Probnidae, Sheimiidae, Visheriferidae, Aliculidae, and Idelinellidae are described from Tshekarda for the first time. An annotated list of grylloblattids from Tshekarda is provided. Other Permian localities of grylloblattids are characterized. The similarity of Tshekarda to the largest Permian localities, first of all Obora (Czech Republic), Elmo (United States), and Soyana (Arkhangel'sk Region, Russia), is analyzed. The morphological characterization of grylloblattids is improved on the basis of new material. Discussion of the System and Phylogeny of the Order Palaeomanteida (= Miomoptera) with Description of New Representatives of the Genus Permosialis Mart. from the Late Permian of Kirov Region and Triassic of Kyrgyzstan
by V.G. Novokshonov and L. V. Zhuzhgova

Taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships within the order Palaeomanteida are discussed. Morphological characteristics of little-known miomopteran taxa are supplemented. An idea of sexual dimorphism in the species of Permosialis Mart. is advanced. Permosialis ualentovae sp. nov. from the Late Permian of the Kirov Region and Permosialis triassica sp. nov. from the Triassic of Kyrgyzstan are described. [PDF1] [PDF2] [PDF3] [PDF4]

Beetles (Insecta, Coleoptera) of the Late Permian and Early Triassic
by A.G. Ponomarenko

Permian beetle fossils are usually represented by isolated elytra. In the Early and early Late Permian, when their forewings were being transformed into elytra, taxa based on the elytral structure were quite natural. By the second half of the Late Permian, different beetle lineages had evolved elytra of a similar structure, thus preventing their use in reconstructing their phylogeny and developing a natural system. However, the assemblages of isolated elytra turn out to be good for characterizing the evolutionary stages of beetles as a whole. By comparing the sequences of beetle assemblages in Angaria, Subangaria, and Gondwana, we have revealed that these sequences are homotaxal and that, most probably, their similar stages are synchronous. New taxa of the families Permocupedidae, Rhombocoleidae, and Schizocoleidae are described from European Russia. [PDF1] [PDF2] [PDF3] [PDF4] [PDF5]
